Common Cement Ratios
Bricklaying Mortar
Mortar needs to be workable but strong enough to bind masonry units together.

- 1:5 Ratio: Standard mix for general internal and external brickwork.
- 1:6 Ratio: Used for internal walls with no load-bearing requirements.
Wall Plaster

Why wheelbarrow size matters
On most construction sites, sand is measured by the wheelbarrow rather than by weight or exact volume. However, wheelbarrows come in different sizes—typically ranging from 65 litres to 100 litres.
If you calculate your mix based on a 65L wheelbarrow but use a 100L one on site, your mix will be far too sandy and weak. Our calculator allows you to input your exact wheelbarrow size to ensure the number of loads matches your physical equipment, keeping your ratios perfectly balanced.
