Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value, then multiply the result by 5/9.
(98.6 - 32) × 5/9 = 66.6 × 0.5555... = 37°C

Common Temperature Conversion Mistakes
Forgetting the 32 Offset
Simply multiplying Fahrenheit by 5/9 without subtracting 32 first will result in wildly inaccurate numbers. The offset is required because the scales have different zero points.
Confusing Relative Change vs. Absolute Temp
A temperature increase of 10°C is an increase of 18°F (10 × 1.8). You do not add 32 when converting a temperature difference or delta, only when converting an absolute reading.
Using Negative Kelvin
Forgetting that 0 K is absolute zero. In normal scientific use, Kelvin stops at zero. You cannot have a negative Kelvin reading.
Rounding Errors in Science
Using 273 instead of 273.15 when converting Celsius to Kelvin in strict laboratory environments, which can throw off precise chemical phase change calculations.
Using the 'Double and Add 30' Shortcut
Relying on the mental shortcut (double the Celsius and add 30 to get Fahrenheit) is fine for guessing the weather, but dangerous when setting industrial ovens or medical equipment.
